People who live in North India are very well aware of Gulgules or meethe pue, as it is prepared by the newly wed brides, the first time they enter the kitchen. Meetha Pua is a mouth-watering dessert recipe which is traditionally prepared on special occasions and festivals, and is enjoyed by people of all age groups. This is an easy-to-make dessert recipe and is cooked using wheat flour, jaggery powder, milk, and sesame seeds. You might confuse it with malpua, but this sweet dish is quite different. While malpua has a shape of pancake, meethe pue has the shape of a pakora. So, do not worry much and try your hands at this easy recipe, and enjoy with your loved ones!
Ingredients of Meetha Pua
500 gm wheat flour
200 gm powdered jaggery
2 tablespoon sesame seeds
3 cup refined oil
2 1/2 cup milk
How to make Meetha Pua
Step 1
To prepare this yummy dessert recipe, take a large bowl and add milk in it along with jaggery powder. Stir well until the jaggery powder dissolves completely. Now, add wheat flour into the jaggery paste and mix well to make a smooth and thick batter.
Step 2
Once the batter is ready, switch off the burner and cover the mixture with a wet cloth for about 15 minutes to set. Afterwards, beat the jaggery and flour mixture, and add sesame seeds into it. The consistency of the batter should be thick enough to make a pua. (Note: You can also add fennel seeds in the batter for a crunchier taste.)
Step 3
Now, put a kadhai on high flame and heat oil in it. When the oil is hot enough, take some batter in your hand and carefully put in the heated oil like you make pakoras. Deep fry them till a dark brown colour is obtained. Repeat the procedure to make more such gulgules.
Step 4
Once you are done with meethe pue, drop them on an absorbent paper to soak the extra oil. Serve warm!
